Traditional Performing Arts Kabuki Noh Kyogen Bunraku

Kabuki Extravagant costumes, Crazy makeup (kumadori), Special effects All actors are men

Noh Musical theater Story is told through music and dance. Some actors wear a wooden mask showing an old man, a young or old woman, a divine figure, a ghost, or a young boy.

Kyogen Comedy Usually staged between noh performances.

Banraku Puppet theater Singing and music played on the shamisen (a three-stringed instrument).
