POSSESSIVES 2nd Year Grammar

POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES They are used to show possession or ownership of something. They are: MY YOUR HIS HER ITS OUR YOUR THEIR

The possessive adjective needs to agree with the possessor and not with the thing that is possessed For example: MY car is very old. OUR dog is black. HER boyfriend is friendly.

Like all adjectives, they are always located directly in front of the noun they refer to. We do NOT include an S to the adjective when the noun is plural (like we do in Spanish) Example: OUR cars are expensive (correct) OURS cars are expensive (incorrect)

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS I t is a part of speech that attributes ownership to someone or something. Like any other pronoun, it substitutes a noun phrase and can prevent its repetition. For example: These glasses are MINE not YOURS. MINE and YOURS are possessive pronouns and they stand for: My glasses and your glasses respectively

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS The possessive pronouns are: MINE YOURS HIS HERS OURS THEIRS
