Ch 22 – PICTURE IT!

Ch 22 PICTURE IT!

Ch 23 --- Change in Tom? 1. Why does Muff’s gratitude for the tobacco bother Huck and Tom? Huck and Tom know Muff is innocent, but have not come forward to clear him. They feel ashamed of themselves when he thanks them for their small gifts. 2. How does the attitude of the spectators change as the prosecution puts on its case? Those attending the court start out ready to convict Muff, but become sympathetic when the defense lawyer refuses to cross-examine any of the prosecution witnesses. They feel sorry for Muff and are upset his lawyer is not fighting for his life. 3. Why do you suppose Injun Joe gives a “barely perceptible start” at the mention of Tom’s hiding place behind the elms? Injun Joe knows there are elms there and realizes Tom is proving Joe’s guilt beyond any doubt. 4. Where do you think Tom goes the night before the trial, when he “was out late that night, and came to bed through the window”? Tom is probably telling his story to the defense attorney.
