ALL FORMS OF LIFE

BACKBONE A backbone is the main bone, made up of many small bones joined together, that, runs along the middle of the back in some animals.

Out of all the animals, very few have backbones. 97 out of every 100 do not have a backbone. No Backbones Animals without a backbone, or an internal skeleton, are called invertebrates Have Backbones Only 3 out of every 100 have a backbone.

Let’s look at a few of the thousands of animals without backbones.

Insects make up the largest group of animals without backbones, or invertebrates

three body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen All insects have: three body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen The head is used mainly for eating, sensing things, and gathering information . The thorax protects the body and gives support for the three pairs of jointed legs The abdomen contains the organs used for digestion and reproduction.

All insects have: six jointed legs ant

All insects have: grasshopper an exoskeleton (outside skeleton)

All insects have: two antennae to sense the world around them American cockroach All insects have two antennae that they use to sense the world around them. Insects use them to feel, smell, and even taste!
