Development of Principles of Play Down CPD Development of Principles of Play

Tutor should highlight the LTPDP pathway poster and where the U10/12 coaching fits into this pathway.

Main roles on the pitch…

Principles of Attack Depth: Penetration: Support on the ball Players as targets Short and Long ball passing options Moving the ball through or into the oppositions defence at speed

Continued… Width: Mobility: Playing balls into wide positions to draw and isolate defenders away from each other and from the central positions giving more space inside for forwards to use The movement of players in from or behind the ball therefore moving defensive players out of position and causing disruption in their defence. Players making runs to leave space for others.

Continued… Improvisation: Communication: Players changing roles/positions or doing the unusual Supporting players giving verbal and non-verbal signals to the players in possession.

Games to Develop Attack Pace of Attack Penetration

Games to Develop Attack

The Aim of Defending The aim of defending is to prevent your opponent from scoring. There is more to this than good tackling: Dispossess an opponent who has possession Force an opponent in possession to shoot poorly, resulting in a wide, or the ball dropping short to your goalkeeper Force an opponent in possession to pass rashly, allowing defenders to intercept the pass

Where do Scores come from?

Types of Defence When taking about defence there are two types we need to consider: Individual: 1v1 Group Defence: 6v6, 15v15

Continued… For both types we must focus on the three D’s: Delaying: Involves shadowing the attacker, attempting to get him to move into positions that will make scoring or passing to a team mate more difficult Denying: Denying an opponent possession involves interception of attempted passes, or using the shoulder tackle to win possession Dispossessing: The key is to tackle the ball when it is being played by your opponent
