This year, Liverpool is celebrating its 805th anniversary .

Liverpool is the sixth largest city in Britain. The name Liverpool literally means ‘ a pool with muddy water’

In the past, Liverpool was a great port In the past, Liverpool was a great port. It was home to many great ships including the Titanic.

The symbol of Liverpool is an imaginary bird called Liver [laivǝ] bird. The most famous building in Liverpool-the Royal Liver Building – is crowned with two clock towers with a Liver Bird.

In the 1960s, the city became a centre of youth culture. The Beatles and other Liverpudlian pop bands made it famous all over the world.

The city has three universities. Students dominate the city population and their number is growing!

Football is very popular in Liverpool, and the city has two famous teams: Liverpool and Everton.

Liverpool was chosen to be the European City of Culture for 2008.

Liverpool is a city of diversity and it boasts the most Georgian buildings in the UK, Europe's oldest Chinatown and plenty of world-class attractions.
