Messages of Hagaai Conviction (1:1-15)

In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, (September 1, 520 BC) the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

2 “Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.”’”

In the first year of King Cyrus, King Cyrus issued a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem: “Let the house be rebuilt, the place where they offered sacrifices; and let the expenses be paid from the king’s treasury.

and brought to Babylon, be restored deposit them in the house of God”; Also let the gold and silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple which is in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be restored and taken back to the temple which is in Jerusalem, each to its place; and deposit them in the house of God”; Ezra 6:1-5

3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” 5 Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:7-8

9 “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.

14 So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people;

and they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius.

Messages of Hagaai Conviction (1:1-15) Comparison (2:1-9)

3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing?

all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘ 4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘ and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Messages of Hagaai Conviction (1:1-15) Comparison (2:1-9) Contamination (2:10-19)

10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying

12 “If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?”’” Then the priests answered and said, “No.”

of these, will it be unclean?” So the priests answered and said, 13 And Haggai said, “If one who is unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?” So the priests answered and said, “It shall be unclean.”

14 Then Haggai answered and said, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,’ says the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.

Signet ring

23 ‘In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the Lord,

‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

Zerubbabel’s ancestor, King Johoiachin’s line, had been rejected by God…

24 “As I live,” says the Lord, “though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet on My right hand, yet I would pluck you off; 25 and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear—the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of the Chaldeans.. Jeremiah 22:24-25

God was reversing the judgment and renewing His promise that Zerubbabel’s ancestor, King Johoiachin, had been rejected by God, but Zerubbabel was accepted by God. God was reversing the judgment and renewing His promise that the Davidic line would not die out…

Rabbi Dayan received an antique document from a cousin which lists his genealogy, showing him to be the 89th generation from King David. This document was verified by Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, the former Chief Sephardi Rabbi of Israel. Breaking Israel News, August, 2016 Rabbi Yosef Dayan.

God was reversing the judgment and renewing His promise that Zerubbabel’s ancestor, King Johoiachin, had been rejected by God, but Zerubbabel was accepted by God. God was reversing the judgment and renewing His promise that the Davidic line would not die out but would one day give the world a Saviour.

Zeerubbabel named in the genealogies 12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. Matthew 1:12-13 Zeerubbabel named in the genealogies of Jesus Christ.

What Next? Consider your ways

Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? What Next? 5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? 2 Corinthians 13:5

What Next? Consider your ways Put God first

What Next? 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

What Next? Consider your ways Put God first The work that God has started He will accomplish

in you will complete it until the day What Next? 6 …being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Philippians 1:6

What Next? Consider your ways Put God first The work that God has started He will accomplish When the outlook seems bleak – look up

What Next? Consider your ways Put God first The work that God has started He will accomplish When the outlook seems bleak – look up Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness What Next? 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ… Romans 8:16-17

Have Thine Own Way, Lord

Have Thine own way, Lord,   Have Thine own way; Thou art the Potter,   I am the clay. Mould me and make me   After Thy will, While I am waiting,   Yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord,   Have Thine own way; Hold o’er my being   Absolute sway. Fill with Thy Spirit   Till all shall see Christ only, always,   Living in me.
