Tape Sculpture Project/ Installation Art A study of Mark Jenkins !!!

Installation art describes an artistic genre of site-specific, three-dimensional works designed to transform a viewer's perception of a space. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called Land art; however the boundaries between these terms overlap.

Global mentality Mark Jenkins is an American artist (b.1970), who lives and works in Washington, D.C. and is most widely known for his street installations featuring tape castings using ordinary packing tape. The “characters” Jenkins creates for his installations include life-size human figures, which he often casts from his own body - he calls this “an out of body experience”. Indoor Sculptures

The element of surprise and a sense of black comedy and absurdity are ever-present in Jenkins’ work. He believes “his work distorts the social fabric of the city, giving plasticity to the otherwise solid-state environment of buildings, laws and signage”.

All you can eat Witty, thoughtful and thought provoking, Jenkins’ installations, once detected in their surroundings by a passer-by, creep into the viewer’s mind and simply cannot be ignored, or brushed aside, as they suddenly push their underlying, often disturbing message into people’s minds.

Street Sculptures

Roof Girl

Mark Jenkins is a Washington, DC-based artist whose humorous, absurdist, and ephemeral work inhabits its public settings almost unnoticed.

Castings sit on the edges of building roofs, or are dressed as homeless people begging for some change. They are stuck head first in trashcans or wrapped in garbage bags with just their feet sticking out. Ducks float along puddles in the gutter of busy city streets. Babies hang on to the rifles of soldiers. His work is well worth seeing and absorbing and certainly is something that will leave your mind neither easily, nor at ease …

Nature Series

Step 1: Wrap your object with plastic wrap or saran wrap

Step 2: Tape over the object using 3-4 layers of tape, keeping it loose enough to fit your finger in

Step 3: using scissors, cut a seam down the middle

Carefully remove the object and any additional cling wrap from the inside

Last Step: match up the seams and tape together where you cut Choose to decorate your object, fill with lights or paint it!
