Some considered connections between performing arts and their wider contexts are explained clearly and mostly accurately and appropriate reference is made to relevant examples. Distinction: The student must explain the connections between the performing arts and social/cultural/political contexts within which they operate with clarity and coherence, displaying in depth analysis and a high level of engagement with the subject. The work should be presented with strict adherence to academic referencing standards and display a range of reading wider than set texts. Merit: The student must explain the connections between the performing arts and social/cultural/political contexts within which they operate with coherence, displaying good analysis and engages well with the subject. Essay Chose and research, a selected period, ‘movement’, or genre in the period from the 1950’s up to 2000 that has affected and impacted significantly on an aspect of the performing arts.   Essay title ‘Describe, analyse and discuss how your chosen topic has changed and developed ideas or practice in the performing arts and explain the connections to the wider socio–economic, political and cultural context.

This could be related to drama, dance, music or film- remember it must be from the period 1950 -2000. NB Remember this is an analytical essay don’t just describe historical events or practice, ensure you analyse and discuss events or movements explaining the connections between the performing arts and the socio-economic, political and cultural contexts and how these affected changes or new developments in your chosen performance topic.
