Workshop 3 Adams/Driveline Specific Test Analyses

This Workshop This workshop Open assembly “JEEP_RWD.asy” from adriveline_shared database and perform: Tip-in Tip-out analysis Open assembly “front_driveline_RollerRig.asy” from adriveline_shared database and perform: RPM Sweep analysis Step Torque analysis (optional) Post-processing and investigating results in Adams/Post-Processor

Tip- in tip-out analysis Open assembly “JEEP_RWD.asy” from adriveline_shared database Menu Navigation Shorthand “From the main menu bar : Simulate >> Full-Vehicle Analysis >> Driveline Tests >> Tip-in Tip-out … Populate the dialog box as shown to the right and then hit OK to simulate

View the Results View the results Press F8 to switch to PostProcessor Plot the Curves matching the output of interest (see below) Use the Control key to select multiple items Check the Surf Box In a Tip-in Tip-out simulation you are usually interested in analyzing: Longitudinal Acceleration of the vehicle Throttle_demand Driveshaft windup angle Engine suspension loads Engine displacement/rotation Etc...

RPM Sweep Analysis Rpm sweep analysis Open assembly “front_driveline_RollerRig.asy” from adriveline_shared database Menu Navigation Shorthand “From the main menu bar, follow the path from Simulate, navigate to Full-Vehicle Analysis, on to Driveline Tests, click RPM Sweep...” Abbreviated as: Simulate >> Full-Vehicle Analysis >> Driveline Tests >> RPM Sweep… Populate the dialog box as shown below and then hit OK to simulate Assembly: front_driveline_RollerRig Output Prefix: test End Time: 10 Number Of Steps: 1000 Mode of Simulation: interactive Gear Position: 3 RPM Start: 1500 RPM End: 4500 Engine Dyno: engine.ues_engine_torque

RPM Sweep Analysis Rpm sweep analysis Perform another analysis with some changes Here we perform another of the same analysis but with Gear value set to 4 to see what effect does it have on the vehicle simulation keeping other input variables just the same. Populate the dialog box as shown below and then hit OK to simulate Assembly: front_driveline_RollerRig Output Prefix: test End Time: 10 Number Of Steps: 1000 Mode of Simulation: interactive Gear Position: 4 RPM Start: 1500 RPM End: 4500 Engine Dyno: engine.ues_engine_torque

View the Results View the results Press F8 to switch to Post-Processor Plot the Curves as Shown: Use the Control key to select multiple items Check the Surf Box Plot: gearbox.gearbox_RPM.inputshaft_rpm_front gearbox.gearbox_RPM.outputshaft_rpm_front crankshaft.engine_RPM.rpm_front

Optional - Step torque analysis Open assembly “front_driveline_RollerRig.asy” from adriveline_shared database Select Simulate >> Full-Vehicle Analysis >> Driveline Tests >> Step Torque… Assembly: front_driveline_RollerRig Output Prefix: test End Time: 10 Number Of Steps: 1000 Mode of Simulation: interactive Initial Velocity: 60 km_hr Gear Position: 4 Initial Torque Value: 25000 Final Torque Value: 50000 Step Start Time: 1 Duration of Step: 1 Engine Dyno: engine.ues_engine_torque

Step Torque Analysis Step torque analysis Perform another analysis with some changes Here we perform another of the same analysis but with Gear value set to 5 to see what effect does it have on the vehicle simulation keeping other input variables just the same. Populate the dialog box as shown below and then hit OK to simulate Assembly: front_driveline_RollerRig Output Prefix: test_1 End Time: 10 Number Of Steps: 1000 Mode of Simulation: interactive Initial Velocity: 60 km/hr Gear Position: 5 Initial Torque Value: 25000 Final Torque Value: 50000 Step Start Time: 1 Duration of Step: 1 Engine Dyno: engine.ues_engine_torque

Step Torque Analysis Step torque analysis Hit F8 to go to post-processor Plotting page opens by default Plot ‘gearbox_longitudinal.gearbox_RPM.outputshaft_rpm_front’ and ‘engine.engine_RPM.rpm_front’ on different pages or on the same page in different plots. Investigate the differences in results between the two simulations and note how changing the gear value for the same step-up of torque causes the results to vary.
