THG Orbit THG Orbit is a high school student project at Thorildsplans Gymnasieskola in Stockholm (www.thg.se) with purpose to construct a liquid fueled sounding rocket with capacity to initially reach 40 km altitude, but with a slightly modified version reach 100 km. Next launch attempt scheduled for students starting aug 2016, may 2017. Only San Diego State University seem to have a similar project

THG Orbit One 1000 lb engine Pressure feed system No active guidance Require launchtower Technical well developed Reusable (2-5 times) Parachute return Own construction 30-40 km altitude Extended kerosene tank, max 100 km Small payload area Developed by students at THG Remindes about Wac Corporal version B Europes most advanced student rocket

THG Orbit Component development for may 2017 launch New 4% diamond profile fins, epoxi/carbonfiber composite New extended payload area, from 500 mm to 800 mm Payload area cover made by carbon fiber, replaces heavy aluminia Replace current heavy aluminia pressure tank with composite tank Upgraded telemetry section, 5 watts 115 Kb/s transcievers, 433 Mhz Upgraded onbord computer (Epia mini ITX, Arduino or Raspberry) LOX remotely controlled dump valve New 11 degree nosecone, carbone fiber replaces glasfiber

THG Orbit Preliminary technical data, may 2017 launch Empty weight 110 lb (50 kg) Thrust 1000 lb (450 kg) Specific Impuls 200 sec Mixture ratio 1.8 Payload weight, 22 lb (10 kg) Propellant weight, 8 second duration, approx 40 lb (18 kg) Air weight (300 bar, 9 liter) 6,5 lb (3 kg) Total weight, including propellants and payload, approx 190 lb (85 kg) Length 5800 mm Diameter 200/250 mm Propellant consumption, approx 1000/200=5 lb/sec (2,3 kg/sec)
