Spiritual Leadership Principles to Live Your Life By…

The Principle of the INFLUENCE: What is Leadership? “INFLUENCE”

EXAMPLE: JOSHUA EXAMPLE: NUMBERS 13-14 ~ NKJV Leadership impact increases as influence increases.

Numbers 13:1-2 ~ NKJV And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them."

Numbers 13:26-33 ~ NKJV 26 Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 Then they told him, and said: "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

Numbers 13:30-33 ~ NKJV 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.“ 31 But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." 32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out… 33 There we saw the giants… and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

Numbers 14:6-10 ~ NKJV 6 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: "The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.

Numbers 14:6-10 ~ NKJV 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them." 10 And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Now the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel.

When a leader has little influence, little can be accomplished Influencing Others Is A Choice. When a leader has little influence, little can be accomplished Gaining Influence with People Takes Time.

Why the People Resisted Joshua They Forgot the PAST. They Were Settled In With the PRESENT. They Feared the FUTURE. What Reality are you going to Choose? Natural Reality Or Faith Reality

Joshua’s Influence Grew Because He Was Right As a result, he consistently lived beyond his ability as a leader. If you desire to do great things in your leadership, then try to live according to this pattern that Joshua modeled. PRAYER  OBEDIENCE FAITH COMMITMENT PARTNERSHIP

Joshua’s Influence Grew Because of His Relationship With Moses The other major factor in Joshua’s increase in influence was the impact of Moses on his life. Not long after the children of Israel escaped from Egypt, Moses selected Joshua to be his assistant. He was described as one of Moses’ “Choice Men” (Numbers 11:28 ~ ASV).

The 5 Levels of Influence  Level 1: Position – Rights Level 2: Permission – Relationship Level 3: Production – Results Level 4: People Development – Reproduction Level 5: Personhood – Respect What Level are on today?

When a Leader Places Family first, Future Generations Will Be Blessed Josh 24:14-15 14 "Now therefore, fear the Lord , serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord ! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord , choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord ."

When a Leader Places Family first, Future Generations Will Be Blessed ~ Joshua 24:14-18 Joshua’s Leadership of His Family Was Greater than His Leadership of the Country. Regardless of What Others Did, Joshua Didn’t Wait for the Crowd. Joshua Modeled Faith-Filled Leadership as a Parent.

Influencing the Family: Even if your children are grown, or your family is broken, it’s never too late to start being a strong influence for good. Characteristics of a Strong Family… Godly parents Consistent parents Good listeners Discipline without rejection Parents loving one another Not playing favorites Admitting failure

Family Influence: Characteristics of a Strong Family… Praying together Reading the Bible together Attending church together Encouraging children to have private devotions Teaching children how to handle money Discouraging criticism in the family Sharing your heartaches, disappointments, trials, and tough times

Family Influence: Characteristics of a Strong Family… Allowing difficult questions Building biblical convictions into their lives as a guide Spending time with your children Being willing to ask for forgiveness Supporting children equally Being honest with your children Being a refuge for one another

OBSERVATIONS… Joshua’s influence grew because of time and maturity. (Joshua 1:16-18) Joshua’s influence grew because he possessed patience and integrity. (Joshua 1:5-9) Joshua’s influence grew because he was right. (Joshua 23:1-11)

Apply & Mobilize Evaluate your level of influence in all areas. Ask yourself, “what level of influence do I have?” Ask God to increase your influence so you can make a difference in others and bring glory to God.
