Advances in Agriculture Song Dynasty New irrigation techniques: Underground wells Dragon backbone pump--allowed one person to pump water instead of several people to scoop water Cultivated land increased Fast-ripening rice--grew quickly so three crops could grow in the time it used to take one crop to grow
