West Chester Area School District Henderson High School Counseling Department Individual Senior Conference Individual Junior Conference 2009 - 2010 Survey Results

Developmental Programs Based on the ASCA Model Strategic Planning We will develop, implement, and evaluate practices, procedures and programs to ensure a consistent, effective comprehensive counseling program. Through an intense and comprehensive strategic planning process, WCASD High School Counseling Departments evaluated and updated our grade level developmental programs, using best practice based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model. What follows are the results of student surveys completed after senior and junior individual conferences . Each student participated in a one-on-one, student specific, developmental meeting with his/her counselor.

Program Objectives for Seniors Students will understand the courses and credits they need to meet graduation requirements. Students will understand the process for completion of post secondary school admissions. Students will understand where to find financial aid and scholarship information and resources. Students will understand post high school career options based on their individual goal plan. Strategic Planning All students will formulate a realistic and individualized goal plan in which they will consistently demonstrate an understanding of how their decisions affect their plan.

Seniors The Questions I understand the courses and credits I need to earn in order to meet graduation requirements. I understand the process for applying to post secondary schools. I understand where to find information on financial aid and scholarships. I understand my post secondary options (i.e. college, vocational, military, work) based on my goal plan.

Students will understand the importance of choosing senior year courses in relation to their post-secondary plans. Students will understand how to register for SAT/ACT. Students will understand how to use resources available to research post-secondary plans (i.e. college, military, vocational, work). Students will understand the importance of school and community activities as they relate to post-secondary plans. Strategic Planning All students will be appropriately counseled to select the most challenging academic level consistent with their potential.

Juniors The Questions I understand the courses and credits I need to earn in order to meet graduation requirements. I understand the importance of choosing classes geared toward my post-secondary plans. I understand how to register for the SAT/ACT. I understand how to use resources available to research my post-secondary plans (i.e. college, military, vocational, work). I understand the importance of school and community activities as they relate to my post-secondary plans.

Observations and Next Steps Survey results from both seniors and juniors are overwhelmingly positive. We will be steadfast in our commitment to enhance and measure our performance in delivering the most effective developmental programs to our students.
