Hebrews 5:12-6:1 (NKJV) 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of unrighteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age,

Hebrews 5:12-6:1 (NKJV) that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. 1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Using The Well It’s our prayer that you have spent the past year seeking to dig deeper into God’s word We have covered various topics that should help in our quest to gain more knowledge We close this morning with one final lesson for the year

Using The Well With all that has been covered this year, it seems as one thing still remains If we are digging deep into God’s word, then we should have dug ourselves a nice well to draw from Now the question is, what do we do with this knowledge?

Do Nothing? Can you imagine digging a well and then not drawing any water from it? What good would digging deeper into God’s word do if there is no application? Jesus addressed this at the end of His sermon in Matthew 7:24-27

Do Nothing? Hearing the word and doing nothing with it makes us foolish James says we become like a forgetful man if we do not make application and changes based on the word (Js. 1:22-25) We have a choice, but choosing to do nothing is not the wise one

Teach Notice what our text in Hebrews says about this knowledge… “For though by this time you ought to be teachers…” The Hebrew writer suggests that they should have grown enough in their knowledge to have passed it on

Teach The Great Commission tells us that we are to go and teach (Matt. 28:19-20; Mk. 16:15-16) That was how the first century church grew, because many taught Paul told Timothy to teach others so that they could teach others as well (II Tim. 2:2)

Teach As parents, we have a responsibility to teach our children (Deut. 6:6-9; Eph. 6:1-4 Paul wrote in Titus 2 that the older men and women are to teach the younger men and women Sharing that knowledge with others can also come in our Bible study

Grow A natural product of our digging deeper should be that we see growth Romans 10:17 tells us that our faith grows through our hearing God’s word It would be difficult for us to learn more and more of God and not grow as a result

Grow Part of that growth involves making changes in our lives This is what James was speaking of when he referenced the one who looked in the mirror (Js. 1:22-25) Looking deep into God’s word should make us aware of changes that are needful

Grow The more I read of Christ the more I should become like Him Paul urged us to have the same mind in us as Christ had (Phil. 2:5) The more we learn of Him the more we can have the same mind in us (Matt. 11:29)

Wisdom Wisdom is something that we all should desire (Js. 1:5) The kind of wisdom that we are hoping to gain is the wisdom from above James describes this wisdom in James 3:17 and this wisdom comes from God (His word)

Wisdom “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps. 119:105) God’s word gives us the wisdom to do what is right Proverbs 3:5-7 gives us the perfect formula for living a life that reflects God’s hand
