4 The Parable of the Seeds & Weeds

5 “He put another parable before them, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also… Matthew 13:24-30

6 …27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them’… Matthew 13:24-30

7 …29 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ” Matthew 13:24-30

8 The Parable of the Seeds & Weeds Explained

9 “Then he left the crowds and went into the house
“Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, ‘Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.’ 37 He answered, ‘The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one… Matthew 13:36-43

10 …39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil
…39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers… Matthew 13:36-43

11 …42 and throw them into the fiery furnace
…42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” Matthew 13:36-43

19 Explained The Parable of the Seeds & Weeds
The point of this parable answers an age old question that has been asked for centuries. Why doesn’t God do something about all this evil in the world? The answer is actually very simple. It would harm all the good righteous people in the world. How would the “good in the kingdom” be harmed by pulling up the “sons of the evil one?” The one the “good” would not be able to mature as they should. (SLIDE)

20 “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” How would the good be harmed by the pulling up of the evil? It would stunt our growth. Every child of God is expected to mature into adulthood. (SLIDE) James 1:2-4

21 “Brothers, do not be children in your thinking
“Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.” 1 Corinthians 14:20

22 “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” Colossians 1:28

23 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14

24 “Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity…”
Hebrews 6:1

25 “In the end, the good will be separated from the bad
“In the end, the good will be separated from the bad. The followers of Satan will be destroyed, while the followers of Christ will be gathered in the heavens.”1 Daniel 12:2-3 says, “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” Brothers and sisters it is far better to mature here on this earth and prepare for eternity by fighting the good fight of faith than it is to be cast out into hell where there is only weeping and gnashing of teeth. Let us be like those of Daniel and “shine like the brightness of the sky above.” 1
