What is Mentoring? A relationship aimed to provide professional & personal support to a mentee Mentor is synonymous with trusted adviser, friend, teacher, wise person Mentoring is used to assist individuals at specific times of their development and lasts for a defined period of time The relationship provides an opportunity for both to develop and benefit from the process

Aims of the Scheme To put students in touch with professional, corporate and business mentors Connection between academic life and world of work Help develop a professional identity Share knowledge and experience Soft skills of being in employment

Outline of the Scheme Duration: four to six months Meet up twice a month for one hour Maintain email contact as agreed Meet at a mutually convenient time Location: mentor’s place of work Evaluation No access to other departments without consent Internal opportunities

Preparing for meetings 12 point plan – remain flexible Set objectives – mentoring record session Ask questions – set challenges and homework Monitor progress – reflective diary
