Vocabulary Equation – a math statement that includes an equal sign

Is Is as much as Is the same as Is identical to Words that mean equals Is Is as much as Is the same as Is identical to

Examples Translate each sentence into an equation. The sum of six and a number t is twelve. The difference between a number f and three is fifteen. Five increased by the product of a number y and seven is nineteen. The quotient of a number w and five decreased by four is zero.

Examples The product of six and a number g is the same as thirty-two. Four times the sum of a number h and six is equal to fifty. Seven plus the product of a number x and five is as much as ten. The square of a number y plus two equals twenty-four.

Translate this sentence into an equation Translate this sentence into an equation. A number c multiplied by six is equal to two more than d. A. 6c = d + 2 B. 2c = d + 6 C. c = d + 2 D. c = 6(d + 2)

Translate this sentence into an equation Translate this sentence into an equation. Three less than a number a divided by four is seven more than 3 times b. A. B. C. D.

Translate the sentence into a formula Translate the sentence into a formula. The area of a circle equals the product of  and the square of the radius r. A. A =  + r2 B. A = r2 C. A = 2r D. A = 2r + 

Examples Translate each equation into a sentence. 6z – 15 = 45 y2 + 3x = w 25u2 + 2 = 15

Translate the equation into a verbal sentence. A. Twelve minus four divided by b is negative one. B. Twelve less than four divided by b equals negative one. C. Four minus twelve divided by b equals negative one. D. Twelve divided by b minus four equals negative one.

Translate the equation into a verbal sentence. 5a = b2 + 1 A. Five plus a equals b squared plus one. B. Five times a equals twice b plus one. C. Five times a equals b squared plus one. D. The quotient of five and a equals b squared plus one.
