Unstoppable Love October 30

How about this … What are some employee benefits that would get you excited? This kind of work culture would make you want to work for such a company Consider what kind of situation makes for a church where you would want to worship Today we look at how a church of loving people is a powerful expression to a needy world

Listen for how the church grew. Acts 2:41-42 (NIV) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Love Meets Spiritual Needs What were the four characteristic activities or practices of the early church? What would we use for teaching today? How is the preaching and teaching of God’s Word a powerful influence? How can you tell when someone is devoted to something?

Love Meets Spiritual Needs So what’s the difference between going to church and being devoted to the church? One of their activities was prayer. In what ways can prayer be transformative in our lives? How does it actually make a change?

Love Meets Spiritual Needs The reason we don’t pray is not because we’re too busy, but because we’re too confident. Agree or disagree? Agree Disagree

Listen for an interesting lifestyle. Acts 2:43-45 (NIV) Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

Love Meets Physical Needs How did people respond to what was going on? What life-style did the early believers adopt? How do you think our church should be more like the early church? In what ways will our church be different from the early church? Why? How can we live with the tension of being generous while providing for your own needs?

Listen for daily activities. Acts 2:46-47 (NIV) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Love Shares the Gospel Where and when did the believers of the early church meet? What did the Christians do when they met together in homes? Again we read of the “breaking of bread”. What do you think the early believers were actually doing when they "broke bread"?

Love Shares the Gospel Why is it important for us to see and have fellowship with Christian friends? What are some specific ways in which a healthy church demonstrates true fellowship? How could a church’s spirit of fellowship be instrumental in reaching unsaved friends and family – to see people saved and added to our membership?

Application Prayer Instead of merely taking an exercise walk through your neighborhood, take a prayer walk. Pray for the people who live in each house in your neighborhood. Pray for their spiritual, emotional, and financial needs, especially for their salvation.

Application Care Actively look for someone in need this week. Determine to give sacrificially, whether of your time, money, or other resources to help that person in the name of Jesus.

Application Share. Think of someone you’ve prayed for or helped in practical ways but never talked to about Jesus. Bring Jesus into your conversation with that person. Let them know your concern for them is motivated by the love of Christ in your life.
