This play is adapted from Mark Twain’s short story by the same title This play is adapted from Mark Twain’s short story by the same title. Like most of Twain’s stories, it is meant to be humorous. This is a rags-to-riches story but with a new twist(转折): the main character (人物) is actually doing quite well for himself before his accident at sea.

Characters (人物): Henry Adams: a lost American businessman in London Roderick and Oliver: two brothers and rich Englishmen

Two rich brothers, Roderick and Oliver, have made a secret bet: Roderick believes that a man cannot survive in the city for a month with only a million pound bank note in his possession but Oliver believes he can.

The Million Pound Bank-note Act One Brief introduction to the story: Two brothers Oliver and Roderick brothers bet on what would happen if one had nothing but a bank-note of £ 1,000,000.They made a bet on a poor man Henry, who was in rags. They gave him a million pound bank-note and saw whether he could win other’s respect even though he was in rags and looked poor. So the story began…
