2015-2016 Governor’s Project: Key Goes Green

What is Key Goes Green? An environmental awareness project in which involve education about the environment, hands on work with nature, recycling projects, and so much more. Nature is all around us, which means we are all surrounded by potential projects.

The Purpose of Key Goes Green To increase environmental awareness in Florida and the Cayman Islands. To build leadership skills in members through easily accessible events. To expand our environmental focus into members’ daily lives To increase Kiwanis Family relations through all- age projects.

What can you do to get involved?

Beach Cleanups A beach cleanup is a great hands-on project that a lot of members love to come out to! These projects are also great because they are easily accessible and easy to schedule. After the project, you can have a fun day at the beach.

Park Beautification Volunteer at your local park and plant some vegetation to add some flora and fauna. Not only will your park become more attractive, but you will also be helping the environment.

Resources for Environmentally-Related Community Service Events: Urban Paradise Guild: This guide provides a calendar with a surplus amount of available community service activities hosted every single day! It also provides information such as date, time, location, and the contact person to RSVP. ECOMB: The Environmental Coalition of Miami & the Beaches, or ECOMB, is an environmental education and nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living practices, fostering environmental stewardship and preserving the ecology of communities. This is also the organization you can work with to adopt a beach!

Resources for Environmentally-Related Community Service Events: FriendsofJupiterBeach: Volunteer for a beach cleanup or become a beach ambassador! HandsOnMiami: HandsOn Miami inspires, equips and mobilizes people to take action to positively effect change in Miami-Dade County. VolunteerCleanup: This is a great website to find any cleanup happening in your area!
