Goal-oriented Christianity

Goal-oriented Christianity Christ = Teacher/Master/Lord Christian = disciple (Acts 11:26) True disciples follow Christ’s teaching and example (Matt. 7:21-23; Luke 6:40, 46) Abide in Christ’s word (John 8:31-32; Matt. 11:29) Follow Christ’s example (I Peter 2:21; John 13:15) Whatever Christ’s goal was, that will be the Christian’s goal too

Goal-oriented Christianity What was Christ’s goal? Do the Father’s will Higher importance than physical necessities (John 4:34) The Father’s will, not his own (John 6:38) Even when the Father’s will was most difficult (Luke 22:42) Please the Father Speak the Father’s message (John 8:28-29)

Goal-oriented Christianity True disciples share Christ’s goals Paul prayed for saints to be equipped to do God’s will and please him (Heb. 13:20-21; Col. 1:9-12) We must understand and discern what the will of the Lord is (Eph. 5:10, 17; Rom 12:2) We have our instructions (I Thess. 4:1)

Goal-oriented Christianity True disciples share Christ’s goal of pleasing the Father Balak’s goal was to please himself (Num. 23:27; 24:1) We make it our aim to please God (II Cor. 5:9-10) This requires obedience through faith (Heb. 11:4-6) A soldier’s aim to please his commander (II Tim. 2:3-6) Whose approval are we seeking? (Gal. 1:10-11) Preaching to please God, not man (I Thess. 2:3-6)

Goal-oriented Christianity True disciples share Christ’s goal of pleasing the Father Live no longer for worldly desires but for the will of God (I Peter 4:1-2; I John 2:17) The worldly-minded cannot please God (Rom. 8:7-9) Worshipping to please God, with reverence (Heb. 12:28) We must continue to grow in pleasing God (I Thess. 4:1)

Goal-oriented Christianity If pleasing God is your goal, then heaven is your goal God rewards those who seek him (Heb. 11:6) Run to win the prize (I Cor. 9:24-27) Press toward the goal (Philip. 3:12-14)

What’s your goal?
