A Frontier Is the land that forms the farthest extent of a nations settled regions. Many early Americans believed the frontier to be between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River. By the 1820’s much of this land that made up this area was settled. So there was a need to push beyond the Mississippi River.

Manifest Destiny A belief in the right of America to expand to the Pacific Ocean. From the beginning, Americans had been interested in westward expansion Examples include: The Louisiana Purchase Acquiring Florida from Spain As the population grew so did the resolve to achieve Manifest Destiny
