Exploratory Program Students preview German, Spanish and French by spending 30 days in each class Learn basic vocabulary and culture Second half of the year: Reading

Purpose Introduce students to the language and culture Broaden perspectives of students Preview languages offered in high school

The Language Booklet/Packet Students receive a vocabulary packet in each language Vocabulary Cultural information List of assignments Rules and expectations *It is important to bring this packet to class each day!

Grades and Information Students receive a grade for EACH class 1st marking period: Spanish 2nd marking period: French and German 3rd marking period: Reading 4th marking period: Reading Effort in each class is important!

BENEFITS TO LANGUAGE LEARNING from ACTFL (American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages) Has a positive effect on intellectual growth. Enriches and enhances a child's mental development. Leaves students with more flexibility in thinking, greater sensitivity to language, and a better ear for listening. Improves a child's understanding of his/her native language.

BENEFITS TO LANGUAGE LEARNING Gives a child the ability to communicate with people s/he would otherwise not have the chance to know. Opens the door to other cultures and helps a child understand and appreciate people from other countries. Gives a student a head start in language requirements for college. Increases job opportunities in many careers where knowing another language is a real asset.
