To indicate that one future action precedes another future action, us the futur antérieur for the action that will happen first. Le Futur Antérieur

To form the futur antérieur, use avoir or être in the future and add the past participle of the main verb. Quand jaurai fini mes études, je travaillerai avec ma mère. When I have finished my studies, I will work with my mom. Julie te téléphonera quand maman sera rentrée. Julie will call you when mom has returned. Review the Hospital of Etre verbs to refresh your memory as to which verbs use the verb être!

The present participle is formed by removing the –ons from the nous form and adding –ant. nous écoutons être* savoir* avoir* Etre, Savoir and Avoir are irregular! nous écoutant nous étant nous savant nous ayant You have to memorize the forms!

Using present participles en + present participle Use en plus a present participle to say that someone is doing something at the same time as something else: Ils sont partis de chez nous en chantant. They left our house singing. en + present participle may also express how or why somehting is done. This translates to by or through. En étudiant, tu réussiras. By studying, youll succeed.

The present participle can be used without en Étant étudiant en art, je voudrais faire un stage. Being an art student, I would like an internship. The present participle may also be used instead of a relative clause. This is typical of formal speech and writing. En Chine, les personnes parlant français sont rares. parlant is used in place of qui parlent

The present participle as an adjective You can also use the present participle as an adjective to describe something or someone. In this case, it will agree in gender and number with the noun being described. Cest une histoire passionnante. Its an exciting story.
