Role of Physical Therapist Traditionally: Physical impairments and functional limitation management. Modern: Major role in prevention, risk factors, developing health promotion strategies, fitness and wellness. Evaluation, examination, motor capabilities, musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, integumentary and other systems.

Role of Physical Therapist Optimizing health and managing illness through customized exercises that enhance motor control, fitness and address potential medical complication. Athlete vs. older patient. Optimal quality of life.

Key role Providing education, guidance, consultation, direct intervention to maintain physical activity for self care, mobility, leisure skills, work and play.

Healthy people 2010 Federal health promotion and disease prevention agenda developed to promote healthy lifestyles for americans. Alliance of 350 national organization, 250 public health, mental health, substance abuse and environmental agencies
