Modern ag research programs generate a lot of data Modern ag research programs generate a lot of data! Year after year after year…… “Big data” is high-volume, -velocity and -variety information assets that demand cost-effective, innovative forms of information processing for enhanced insight and decision making.

What is GDR? Genome Database for Rosaceae Community database for worldwide Rosaceae research community GDR initiated in 2003 to curate, house and integrate emerging Rosaceae genomics, genetics and breeding data analyze complex data using high performance computing and distill into usable data for researchers provide access to data mining tools facilitate comparative genomics within the family Model for generic database platform TRIPAL Jim this is just a slide introducing GDR to the audience (many won’t be familiar with it) You can essentially just read this slide point by point or you can just relay some of this information when you show them the GDR home page slide

GDR Home Page www.rosaceae.org Home page, maybe point out quick access points to crops of interest or popular features in the home page quick links sections GDR Home Page www.rosaceae.org

GDR Vision Part 1 Discovery Translation Application Facilitate Rosaceae Research Highly engaged community (research and industry) Continuous funding since 2003 USDA SCRI ($4.6M), USDA NRSP10 ($2M) NSF PGRP ($4.6M) NSF DIBBS ($1.5 M) Industry ($1.75M) Land Grant Universities (salaries) Excellent development and curation team Essentially just read this, maybe say over $14M dollars between 2003-2019 going toward development of the Tripal structure and data curation efforts

Private WABP Database in GDR Example of Current Breeders Resources Community Data QTLs/MLTs/Markers RosBREED and FruitBreedomics WABP Private Data Crosses Phenotype Genotype Published Data QTLs/MLTs Markers Associated data upload curate and upload curate and upload Private WABP Database in GDR This indicates the current utility of GDR where breeders have access to their private data, seamlessly connected with all the curated public data. In the improved system we are building a comprehensive Breeding Information Management System that will allow breeders control and access of all their program data as well as statistical and analysis capability. | browse | query | compare | download | upload | edit | output | cross assistance | convert markers | State-of-the-Art Apple Breeding
