What does “dating” mean to you?

What is Dating? Definition: Dating is a part of human mating process whereby two people meet socially for companionship, beyond the level of friendship, or with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship or marriage. Wow! What do you think about that definition?

Does everyone date in middle school? Not all young teens share these feeling of attraction. There are a variety of reason for this, such as… Shy and uncomfortable Against family values More interested in sports, clubs, etc…

What does Middle School List 10 group date activities Dating Look Like? Group Dating: Going out as a group may be more comfortable. Conversations are easier. Someone to be there with you in case things go wrong. List 10 group date activities That you would enjoy.

Individual Dating Eventually you may begin to develop an interest in one person. Individual dating is a way to get to know them better. Do you have an age requirement at your house when you can go on and individual date? What are some concerns with going on a date with just you and your date?

Finding the Right Person Make sure that the person who you are spending time with is someone who demonstrates positive qualities. Respectful Responsible Trustworthy Reliable Caring

Limits Plan ahead to Avoid risky situations Setting limits protects you from risky or unhealthy behaviors. Question: What are limits? Answer: They are invisible boundaries that protect you. Plan ahead to Avoid risky situations

Setting Limits Limits are important when it comes to dating. Some limits you need to think about are: - who you date - where you go - what you will do Know YOUR limits!

What does it mean? What kind of things can you abstain from? Why would you abstain from certain things? Not participating in high risk behaviors. Safety - avoiding consequences – Emotional trauma – self respect – against family values …

How do your perceptions of the norm influence healthy and unhealthy behaviors? What does that mean?

What is….. Love ~ a strong care or concern for someone Respect ~ a feeling of deep admiration for someone Dating Abuse ~ physical, sexual, or psychological/emotional violence within a dating relationship

What is dating violence? Dating violence is when someone repeatedly does hurtful things to get power or control over you. If you feel you’re being treated badly, you probably are.

Are you in a unhealthy relationship? Ask yourself…. Does either of you….

check the other’s phone, e-mail, or social networking messages without permission call, text, or instant message constantly wanting to know where they are, what they're doing, or who they’re with tell the other who they can or can’t hang out with tell the other who they can be “friends” with on social media sites stalk or track the other’s activity on social media sites pressure the other to send explicit pictures to them

embarrass or insult the other in front of people on purpose have extreme mood swings or a bad temper act jealous and/or try to stop the other from spending time with others constantly accuse the other of cheating or doing something wrong threaten to commit suicide, hurt yourself, and/or hurt the other if you break up hurt the other physically

Prevent Dating Abuse Get to know a dating partner slowly. Make it clear how you expect to be treated. Don’t use or accept abusive or disrespectful behavior toward or from others. Speak up when you witness abusive or disrespectful behavior among peers. Be a role model for healthy relationships.
