Wellness is more than just being healthy. An important foundation of helping children become health-literate is teaching them about wellness. Wellness is more than just being healthy. What is Wellness? With a partner, brainstorm a list of words that describe “wellness.” Type your responses onto the answer garden page (using less than 20 characters for each response). This will create a word cloud, where the most popular responses are the largest. answergarden.ch/366304 www.TogetherCounts.com

Building a Foundation Explain that there are 3 aspects of wellness. This activity can be done with STUDENT involvement. If students are present, the groups can be comprised of 4 people (students and teachers mixed together). [See directions in outline.] Explain that there are 3 aspects of wellness. What are some actions and behaviors that YOU DO to address these areas of wellness in your own life? Have students draw pictures around their triangle to show examples of physical, social, and emotional wellness.

Explain that there are 3 aspects of wellness. Chat: What are some actions and behaviors that YOU DO to address these areas of wellness in your own life?

Explain that there are 3 aspects of wellness. Chat: What are some actions and behaviors that YOU DO to address these areas of wellness in your own life?

With your group, make a list of the ways that you address the specific aspect of wellness with your students in your classroom now. (Lists can be written on poster paper and hung around the room for everyone to see.) As you learn about the Together Counts Program, you will gain ways to address these aspects of your students’ wellness. How do you currently address these aspects of wellness with your students?

Groups share out their list of strategies for each area.
