Flag Day

When is flag day? November 3rd 2015 What is Flag Day? The day of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE.

Understanding a flag is like understanding the country and its people, so, in the spirit of the upcoming National Day, we thought it important to break down the meaning of the UAE flag and its colours.

The Flag was designed by Mr The Flag was designed by Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Al Maainah after he read an advertisement announcing a competition for designing the UAE flag in 1971. His design was selected and granted AED 4.000 as a prize. (A lot of money then!)

The UAE flag consists of four colours; green, white, black, and red The UAE flag consists of four colours; green, white, black, and red. All four of which stand for Arabian unity.

Green refers to goodness and agriculture, abundant throughout the country. White refers to peace. Black refers to courage and power. Red refers to power and sovereignty.
