Vision 2020/Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood DRAFT Vision 2020/Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood District Accountability Report LCAP Goal 4-Positive School Environment, Climate and Culture with Equity at the Core, and Support for the Whole Child March 14, 2017  

DRAFT Our Commitment Districtwide efforts will be continued to provide safe inclusive environments for all students to thrive, specifically Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA) students and those perceived to be LGBTQIA, as well as students from LGBTQIA families. Why we are doing this work – what are the values (not stats) underlying our commitment to the work (in addition to the obvious fact it’s in the LCAP!) Continuing LGBTQIA awareness and advocacy trainings at school sites and departments. Producing inclusive curricula products (i.e., lessons and resources) that adhere to the FAIR Education Act, coordinated by the History/Social Sciences Department and the Office of Youth Advocacy. Developing and ongoing method to survey and report results of the inclusive climate in secondary schools. Continuing to support Genders and Sexualities Alliances (GSA) at our secondary schools as a robust and viable source of student empowerment.

Supportive Legislation and Implementation DRAFT Supportive Legislation and Implementation AP6381, Bullying and Intimidation Part of Annual Employee Notifications FAIR Education Act – SB48 https://sites.google.com/a/sandi.net/sd usd-hss/fair-act-curricula LGBTQIA 102 How are we doing on fair ed act LGBT curriculum? (Relates to bullying because when we understand identity we are less likely to harm one another.) Status of required annual notifications process notifying employees of our bullying policy. SB48, FAIR Education Act (2012) requires that California K-12 schools provide Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful representations of people with disabilities and people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender in history and social studies curriculum. The California Education Code has been updated over time to make sure that the role and contributions of members of underrepresented racial, ethnic and cultural groups to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States are included in history and social studies lessons. AB 9, Seth’s Law (2011) tightens anti-bullying policies in California schools by ensuring that all schools have clear and consistent policies and by establishing timelines for investigating claims of bullying. It requires school personnel to intervene whenever they see instances of bullying create a respectful and safe environment for all students. San Diego Unifier's Policy A-3550 addresses bullying, harassment or intimidation.

DRAFT Supportive Legislation for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students School Success and Opportunity Act- AB 1266 SDUSD Statement of Support via Twitter Equal Restroom Act - AB 1732 Student Information Change Request Form Legal Name Change Workshops Protections for transgender youth and what we are doing to prevent them from being bullied? Legislation and policy supporting transgender students in SDUSD will not change regardless of new directive from current national administration. Student Information Change Request Form provide a means for transgender students to have their gender identity affirmed without a legal name change. Legal Name Change Workshops available monthly to parents and students. AB 1266, School Success and Opportunity Act (2013) provides guidance to schools so they can make sure that all students have the opportunity to do well in school and graduate. It amends the California Education Code and allows students to compete in sports teams and use facilities, including restrooms, based on their gender identity, regardless of whether they are listed as a male or female in official student records. It eliminates all sex-segregated school programs and facilities. AB 1732 Equal Access Restroom Act (2017) Requires all single-user toilet facilities in any business establishment, place of public accommodation, or state or local government agency to be identified as all-gender toilet facilities, and designated for use by no more than one occupant at a time or for family or assisted use, beginning March 1, 2017. This bill will help resolve the safety concerns of transgender and gender non-conforming people, promote bathroom equity for everyone, regardless of gender, and provide better options for parents of different-gender children and people with disabilities who rely on caretakers of a different gender.

Reporting Practices Revised Policy and Procedures (AP 6381) DRAFT Reporting Practices Revised Policy and Procedures (AP 6381) Expanded ways to report Bullying Supporting the Accountability in Investigations What has been our past activity on this issue over the last 4 years under Supt. Marten — what have we done already to address. Online bullying reporting form: How many a month? Where are they coming from and nature of report? How many from online and other sources0? How many have clicked the online link?  Talking Points: There are multiple ways to report incidents of bullying in addition to reporting it to a trusted adult at the school site. Examples of other methods (Online reporting, Quality Assurance Office, Students Speaking Out From July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 ---- 416 online reports were filed The site principal and Multiple departments receive the online report. This provides oversight and support. Professional development is provided and support is provided to follow up on the investigations

DRAFT School Climate Year one of program administered SDSUD School Climate Survey (GLSEN-modeled) 13,000 students in middle and high school. Year two will align with district school climate survey (California Healthy Kids Survey) and include the “Gender and Sex-based Harassment Module” What results do we have to show for what we have tried to do — and what is the state/national context for these results — are others doing better/worse? Year one of program we administered school climate survey modeled after National GLSEN Survey with 13,000 responses Year two we will align with district school climate surveys and include the “Gender and Sex-based Harassment Module” into the CHKS Survey
