For all expressions involving exponents, there are two parts: Identify the base and exponent in each expression below: Base: 8 Exponent: 5 Base: x Exponent: 4 Base: 3 Exponent: 2 Base: 7 Exponent: x

Any quantity raised to an exponent of 0 will be equal to 1. Compute each of the following (carefully)…. 1 1 1 1 –1 1 Any quantity raised to an exponent of 0 will be equal to 1.

A negative exponent indicates to take the reciprocal of the expression.

When multiplying expressions with same base, add the exponents.

When dividing expressions with same base, subtract the exponents.

Given the product of expressions raised to an exponent, distribute the exponents.

Given an exponent raised to an exponent, multiply the exponents.

Use the properties of exponents to simplify each expression with no negative exponents.
