What is Gradient? Anonymous Calibrated

Benefits Different levels of student expertise Quantitative and qualitative feedback Convenient for peer review outside of class Fosters asynchronous feedback. Supports learning-centered pedagogy Drives students to participate actively Provides performance data on students and class quantitative feedback - formative or summative; qualitative feedback gives students specific feedback and direction for revising their work or for future submissions. Provides a convenient method of accomplishing peer review outside of class time, but allows instructor intervention as needed. Takes advantage of technology to foster asynchronous feedback that students can access when and where it is convenient for them. Supports learning-centered pedagogy that drives students to participate actively in their own learning and skills development. Provides performance data on each student and on the class as a whole to the instructor, allowing for individual intervention as well as identifying patterns that can be addressed with the entire class. Creates a closed system in which all materials and data for a class are housed for access and analysis by the instructor.

Caveats Concerns about reliability or credibility Discomfort in reviewing others’ work Defensiveness about their own work. Varying degrees of engagement and participation Passive resistance Varying access to and proficiencies in using technology
