Much existing housing is poorly suited to the needs of older people and people with dementia in particular Where people with dementia have moved into specialist housing they identify benefits Housing with care can plays an important role in supporting people with dementia and fill a gap between mainstream homes and care homes Home truths: Housing services and support for people with Dementia (2012) There is only enough specialist housing to accommodate 5% of the over-65 population Survey of English Housing (Annual) DCLG HOUSING and DEMENTIA

People, Places, Process Places “The creation and maintenance of suitable housing which incorporates space and design and can support people living with dementia. This includes both the interior and exterior of buildings, areas around buildings and the location in which they are built. Physical spaces should be easy to navigate and be accessible for people living with dementia to enjoy a meaningful and inclusive life.” HOUSING and DEMENTIA
