Standardizing Triage Past, Present, Future

History of Triage- “sort” Started in the military Adopted by civilian EMS Changed and revised over the last 30+ years Do the greatest good for the largest number of people.

Purpose/Objectives of Triage Rapidly identify life-threatening injuries Prioritize based on severity Provide immediate treatment that can change a patient’s category (red to green)

Triage Catergories Walking wounded/minor (green) Delayed (yellow) Immediate (red) Deceased/expectant (black) Expectant (MUCC Triage) (blue or gray)
