Careers Profession Alliance - One voice for the profession Strengthening the profession through a new national register of career development professionals

Background Remit of the Careers Profession Alliance is: To bring together the professional bodies engaged in careers development in the UK to create a careers profession comparable to other chartered professions both in public standing and in the rigour and supervision of its members

Background Five professional associations on Executive Group ( ICG, ACEG, NAEGA, NISCA, ACPI) representing wide footprint of careers sector UK wide remit - Four home nations Early CPA work leading to consultation on future governance and structure (Single Institute or Federal arrangements) Development of Professional Standards Framework Funding from DBIS to take forward national register and career progression framework

Professional Standards Framework National register of careers professionals is set in context of wider membership structure and professional standards framework of CPA/successor body Professional Standards Framework covering (for different categories of membership): Entry Standards and criteria CPD and Ethics Complaints and Discipline

Other important things Government support for Professional Standards in guidance and contracts Quality assurance - CPA Professional standards for individuals Matrix for organisations National quality in careers standard (QiCS) for provision Employer Engagement – e.g. Relationship to contracts, skilled workforce, qualifications and CPD CPA use of the umbrella term Career Development Profession. ‘Footprint’ of the whole sector

The Register Purpose Single national point of reference for ensuring professional status of careers professionals Recognised as such by customers, members of the profession, policy makers and funders

Benefits Need to be clear and realised for success: For customers: Confidence in the competence and ethical standing of the careers development professional and ability to report dissatisfaction For those on the register: Professional recognition and confidence in peers For policy makers and funders: Confidence that membership of register is an assurance of quality of individuals delivering services

Register Some Principles Meaningful to all members of the profession and realised benefits Robust and rigorous in entry standards and requirements Accessible to all career professionals across the sector Supported by a career progression framework- access to qualifications, CPD, ethical supports Integral part of a wider professional standards framework

Register Ensuring Standards Code of Ethics - Declaration (sign up) and support for ethical understanding Entry Standards - Based on QCF Level 6 and above, recognised qualifications, national occupational standards, evidence and assessment of competence CPD requirements - Hours, inputs and outputs, reflective learning, links to competence, monitoring of CPD and support through career progression framework Complaints and discipline process with robust procedures including a range of sanctions and appeals
