Basic education Compulsory for all children who are permanent residents in Finland Lower stage comprehensive school takes six years, classes 1-6, ages from 7 to 12

Upper stage comprehensive school, classes 7-9 additional teaching is available for one year after basic education, 10 th class Its free for everyone

Vocational education institutions and upper secondary schools Both usually take three years After vocational education you are qualificated to work in profession you have studied

At the end of the upper secondary school the students take a matriculation examination which gives you better opportunities to become accepted into institutes of higher education Every year about students graduate from upper secondary school

Universities and Institutes of higher education Polytechnic qualification usually takes between 3.5 and 4.5 years A matriculation examination or a basic upper secondary level vocational qualification is required to get into a polytechnic

University usually takes 5 or more years Matriculation examination is the easiest way to get into the university After higher education you can get a doctorate
