Volunteering at Cannon YMCA What does it mean to be a Volunteer Coach at the Cannon Memorial YMCA Sports Department? Respect Responsibility Honesty Caring Faith

Responsibilities as a Volunteer Coach Coaches will be responsible for communicating to the parents and players on their team. Coaches will attend the preseason coaches meeting before the season. Coaches will be responsible for finding coverage if they are not able to attend practices or games.   Coaches will place the emotional and physical well-being of their players ahead of a personal desire to win.

Responsibilities as a Volunteer Coach Coaches will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the age group. Coaches will do their best to provide a safe playing situation for the players. Coaches will promise to review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of their players. Coaches will do their best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all their players.

Responsibilities as a Volunteer Coach Coaches will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all their players. Coaches will not cheat or engage in any form of unethical behavior that violates league rules. Coaches will provide a sports environment for their team that is free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events. Coaches will be knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that they coach, and they will teach these rules to their players.

Responsibilities as a Volunteer Coach Coaches will use those coaching techniques appropriate for all of the skills that they teach. Coaches will remember that they are a youth sports coach and that the game is for children and not adults.

Paper Work Each coach must fill out a Volunteer Application. Each coach must fill out Child Abuse Training Packet. Both these forms will be completed annually.

Practice Information 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 Soccer and Flag Football will practice one night a week. Practice times are at 6p or at 7p. We practice on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. We use three locations for practice: Safrit Park-Kannapolis West Cabarrus Y- Concord Thrive Worship Center- Harrisburg Practice begins the week of September 6th. All teams will practice on Saturday, September 10th.

Game Schedule Games will begin on Saturday, September 17th. We will do our best to get each team 75% of games at their home location. Each team will be scheduled 8 games during the season. This is an association wide league so teams maybe be asked to play at all locations. Games begin at 9:00 am on Saturday and usually finish by 3:00 pm. THE YMCA will make the call on rainouts or inclement weather. Please plan to play or practice even if it is raining.

Jerseys Each player will receive one jersey from the Cannon Memorial YMCA Youth Sports Department. Jerseys will be ordered two weeks before the start of the season and will be distributed during the first or second practice. Jerseys are ordered based on the size requested during registration. If there is an error with the jersey please contact the Association Sports Director immediately. (tjameson@cannonymca.org). Soccer participants will receive socks. Flag Football participants will receive flags.

Communication Please visit our league athletics site, www.cannonysports.playerspace.com , for all information regarding Y sports, including rosters, schedules, practice times and field information. This is where we will make real-time updates in the event of inclement weather. Each participant will receive an email from PlayerSpace welcoming them to the season. PlayerSpace will provide each participant with a login and password. If you are not receiving emails from PlayerSpace please check your spam folder or make sure that your email account is allowing access for PlayerSpace. Personalize the site for your team and provide your phone number and carrier for text message updates and notifications.
