Content AWARE-SEIS component Bilateral support to the Central Asian countries to promote the SEIS Central Asia Assessment of Assessments

AWARE SEIS Enhancing opportunities for EU-CA cooperation on environmental governance through increased awareness on the most compatible and applicable practices such as Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) funded by EU” Project objective: To provide information about SEIS as a possible way forward to put a regular reporting process in place and promote understanding of relevant authorities that the quality, timeliness and availability of environmental information is a critical factor for making progress in any environment strategy

SEIS component of AWARE Project outcomes: National seminars in each country enhancing opportunities in developing SEIS; Appointment of AWARE-SEIS National Focal Points; Development of five country profiles on SEIS; «Promoting SEIS in CA: needs and opportunities» publication and information brochure; New project concepts: development of the systems of SoER in Tajikistan & Turkmenistan; Improvement of interaction among environmental information holders in Uzbekistan; improvement of water statistics in Kyrgyzstan; AoA on 4 components in Kazakhstan;

Bilateral support to promote the SEIS “Bilateral support to Central Asian countries in SEIS oriented improvement of the environmental governance” Project objective To improve the accessibility of environmental information in Central Asia, in a form of a coherent and integrated Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS).

Bilateral support to promote the SEIS Project outcomes: Establishment of two formal National Working Groups on SEIS in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and three informal groups in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan consisting of SEIS relevant national authorities; Funding participation of relevant AWARE-SEIS National Focal Points and experts from CA countries in each of five AWARE-SEIS national seminars; Assessment of needs and development of solutions for improvement of water statistics in Kyrgyzstan(to be published) discussion and agreement with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to exercise the new AoA on biodiversity, air, wastes and climate change (Report to be published in June 2013);

Central Asia Assessment of Assessments CA AoA on water and green economy : Involvement of Central Asia in the EE-AoA; 39 assessments on Inland Waters and 42 assessments on Resource Efficiency and Green Economy uploaded to EEA Virtual Library; AoA on biodiversity, air, wastes and climate change IN Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; Capacity building and involvement of national experts

Activities follow up Finish Environmental Institute to support piloting of the improved water statistics project in Kyrgyzstan; Establishment of SoER systems in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan- negotiations with donors; Activities in the frames of MONECA
