Acceleration

Acceleration – the rate at which velocity changes. Means that an object accelerates if it’s speed, it’s direction, or both change.

Positive/Negative An increase in velocity is called positive acceleration A decrease in velocity is called negative acceleration or deceleration

formula You can find the average acceleration by using the following formula: Average acceleration = final velocity – starting velocity Time it takes to change velocity

Example: If a girl is walking for 4 seconds, and her speed increases from 1 m/s to 5m/s, what is her acceleration? 5m/s – 1m/s = 1m/s/s 4 seconds
