YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THESE POSTERS IN ALL OF YOUR CLASSROOMS...

…...and you may have heard the phrase “VIKINGS SET THE PACE!” And heard about a WASC visit.

BUT WHAT IS IT? WASC IS THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS THAT MAKES YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA MATTER SO YOU CAN USE IT FOR: COLLEGE MILITARY SERVICE CAREER ALL OF THE ABOVE

WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

Why is this kind of a big deal… The WASC team is here to make sure Vanden can give valid high school diplomas. So...they make sure your time here at Vanden matters.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW...

SLO’s (Vanden’s School wide Learning Outcomes) The Visit will be next week Sunday April 2nd- Wednesday April 5th The WASC team will be visiting every classroom on campus at least once...when they come into your room...be yourselves (except a little bit better) You may be randomly chosen to talk to a WASC team member about Vanden in a group at lunchtime on Tuesday. If they invite you, please go and be honest about your time here. Don’t panic, they are here to check out our school and we are well-prepared for the visit.

What are SLO’s? School wide Learning Outcomes Vanden’s are captured by the acronym PACE P= Personal Growth A= Academic achievement C= Community Responsibility E= Employability

Personal Growth: Vanden students set short and long term educational and personal goals and use strategies to achieve them.

Personal Growth Vanden students identify their own strengths and values in order to become more self aware.

Personal Growth Vanden students make sound decisions about social, physical, emotional and mental health and demonstrate resiliency in the face of adversity.

Academic Proficiency Vanden students analyze and comprehend complex texts across all content areas and acquire knowledge through real world experiences.

Academic Proficiency Vanden students demonstrate literacy through effective communication skills in both written and oral expression.

Academic Proficiency Vanden students demonstrate technological competency, including the ability to evaluate and cite sources.

Academic Proficiency Vanden students demonstrate persistence when met with challenging academic content or skills Vanden students justify understanding citing specific evidence

Academic Proficiency Vanden students evaluate and appreciate the arts— visual arts, dance, music, theater and literature from a variety of cultures.

In groups or pairs, make a list of ways that Vanden encourages Personal Growth and Academic Proficiency Write and announce as many ideas as you can in the allotted time, one idea per slip of paper. Each slip of paper is placed in the center of the table...let’s see if we can cover the entire table! Post activity, we will share out the ways that Vanden encourages Personal Growth and Academic Responsibility Jot your Thoughts

Community Responsibility Vanden students demonstrate knowledge of diverse cultures and foster acceptance for individual differences.

Community Responsibility Vanden students are active in the local community and informed global citizens

Community Responsibility Vanden students are accountable for their individual actions and are respectful of others.

Employability Vanden students collaborate with others to gather and evaluate information, draw conclusions and produce a product or service.

Employability Vanden students formulate a clear plan for their post- secondary education, military or career choice.

Final Thoughts If you remember the contents of this powerpoint...you too can be champions...just like the Vanden Girls Basketball State Champions and Vanden Robovikes headed to the World Championship. Go Vikes!!!

All Record Red Robin Set up: Form groups of (4). Each group will receive one piece of bond paper. In teams, your group will take turns passing the paper around, each writing how Vanden encourages Community Responsibility and Employability. Each group will share out their responses and responses will be collected.
