The message of John’s letter Jesus Christ has appeared as our Eternal Life. Chapters 1-3 John is making distinctions so that the truth can be clearly grasped. Chapters 4-5 “Therefore, love one another.” 3

1 John 5:14-17 (NIV84) 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 5:15 And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him. 5:16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. 5:17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. 6

The sin that leads to death making a habit of the sin of refusing to repent and refusing to welcome forgiveness from Jesus. The sin that does not lead to death makes a habit of responding to the conviction of the Holy Spirit 20

And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 21
