In eternal life, in prayer and in our battle with sin. 1 John 5:12-21 5:18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. 1 John 5:18 (NIV84) 2 2

The message of John’s letter Jesus Christ has appeared as our Eternal Life. Chapters 1-3 John is making distinctions so that the truth can be clearly grasped. Chapters 4-5 “Therefore, love one another.” 3

Complacency in the Christian life 1 John 5:21 (NIV84) 5:21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. Complacency in the Christian life is dangerous! 27

Our default setting can indeed be Christ! 1 John 5:18 (NIV84) 5:18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. 1 John 3:9 (NIV84) 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 28
