Assembly of the doorknob HNOSS RF source Doorknob package Arc detector = =

Doorknob package material list (1/2) M8x40 Bolt (coupler interface) Outer conductor M8x35 Bolt (doorknob interface) Flanges (doorknob orientation) Antenna (coupler interface) Doorknob

Doorknob package material list (2/2) M12 thread O-ring Ø14 T2 O-ring Ø34,5 T3 Plate gasket 12/17 (plumbing NBR) Serflex Inner circuit (rod) Outer circuit O-ring Ø37 T2 Plug (Outer circuit) Hexagonal Socket (18mm) Ø10 outlet O-ring Ø10 T2 Ø10 inlet

Dooknob assembly tooling Nut (for inner circuit) Centering ¼ flanges 8 chc M8x25 8 chc M10x40 Bar (fixed on WaveGuide) Bearing balls (free movement in horizontal plane) Palletjack (adapted to IPN lifting heigth)

Antenna water cooling connexion Ceramic window (Fragile) Gauge Risk of leak Inlet circuit (water) Outlet circuit (water)

Dooknob assembly (1/9) 1. Assembly of the outer conductor Top view : orientation of the outlet conductor Do not over tighten the bolts for this step Top view : orientation of the ¼ flanges 2. Tooling installation (1) Flip the doorknob Chc M8x25 Support Support free

Dooknob assembly (2/9) 1. Pre-Assembly of the antenna Do not forget the o-rings 2. Introduction of the antenna Fragile Centering and contact

Dooknob assembly (3/9) 1. Pre-fixation of the antenna 2. Blocking but soft tightening (only to maintain in position, see step 4, same page) Serflex Nut for inner circuit rod 3. Assembly of the rolling adjustment bars 4. Flipping and laying on lifting device Tricky task

Dooknob assembly (4/9) 1. Nota on « IPN » lifting device The lifting jack (standard and existing at IPNO) is adapted to our needs in terms of stroke and gap (for integration on the spoke cryomodule). It can be replaced by a lifting table or something else to meet your needs…

Dooknob assembly (5/9) 1. Approach and align as well as you can the doorknob axis (blue) with the coupler and cavity axis (red) Centering 2. Hold the inner circuit rod in raised position and remove the rod nut 3. Lift the doorknob until the ¼ flanges (tooling) are in contact and centered with outer flange of the power coupler. Note that the inner circuit rod will still be supported but not engaged in the central threaded hole of the power coupler. 2 1 More details on the next slide…

Dooknob assembly (6/9) 1. Centering and contact Contact Centering gap ¼ flanges Guided but not engaged (approximately 18 mm down)

Dooknob assembly (7/9) 1. Hand tightening of the inner circuit rod until gets into contact 2. Remove the screws (1) , remove the ¼ flanges (2). Note that you can temporarily remove the yellow flange to get a better accessibility (3). 1 3 2

Dooknob assembly (8/9) 2. Hand lift the antenna (1) and hand tight the inner circuit rod until contact (2). 1. Outer conductor connexion : Gradually unscrew the spring collar (1), when the doorknob is free, lift it until contact with the power coupler (2) then fix with bolts (3) Smoothly tighten the inner circuit rod with a flat wrench (3): we estimate about 90°, too much effort can constrain the ceramic window, we only need watertightness ! 3 2 2 1 Note that the doorknob is always supported 1 3 1

Dooknob assembly (9/9) Outlet Inlet 1. Closing of the circuit by introducing and hand screwing the outer circuit plug (remember that we only need watertightness). 2. Fill the circuit with water and check for leaks Do not forget the o-rings Note that the doorknob is always supported Outlet Inlet

Connexion to RF source 1. To angle the connexion flange of doorknob wave guide with the RF source interface, you only need to slightly unscrew the half flanges (1) and angle by turning the doorknob(2). 2. After the aligment, block the half flanges (1) and clamp the Serflex (3). You can now remove all parts of the tooling. 3 1 2 During the connexion with the RF source, the doorknob must be blocked in all directions. Remember that all mechanical stresses applied on the doorknob are transmitted to the ceramic window of the power coupler RF Source Note that the doorknob is always supported
