Figure 1 Bar graph showing the percentage of symptoms self-reported by 120 cases and 180 age- and sex-matched controls in a population-based pancreatic cancer study in the San Francisco Bay Area. Symptoms were categorized under 4 broad subgroups of bile duct obstruction, upper gastrointestinal, lower gastrointestinal, and other constitutional symptoms, and percentages are presented by case and control status. Bile duct obstruction symptoms included jaundice, pale stools, dark urine, and itching. Upper gastrointestinal symptoms included unusual bloating, unusual belching, unusual heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Lower gastrointestinal symptoms included constipation and diarrhea. Other constitutional symptoms included appetite loss, abdominal pain, weight loss, fatigue, and altered ability to sleep. ▩, Cases; □, controls.
