Active Voice vs. Passive voice What’s the difference?!

Active Voice  In the active voice, the subject always “does” the action of the sentence.

passive Voice In the passive voice, something that is ordinarily “done by” the subject of a sentence is “done by” the object of a sentence.

Are we all nice and confused now? Let’s see some examples

Examples Active Voice Passive Voice Lexi mows the lawn. Corinne makes pancakes every Sunday. In each of these sentences, the subject comes before the verb and object. The subject is “doing” the verb in the sentence. This is called the active voice. Passive Voice The lawn is mowed by Lexi Every Sunday, the pancakes are made by Corinne Sounds kind of funny, right? That’s because the word that should be the direct object, has become the subject of the sentence.

“BY Zombies” If you can add the phrase “By zombies” after the verb, and it makes sense, the sentence is passive. If not, the sentence is active.

Examples The store was overrun. (by Zombies) Does it make sense? He ran (BY zombies) the store. Does it make sense?
