----------------------------- By: Niki Hill and Claudia Heil Genius Hour Fruit - ‘What is every child’s favourite fruit in our school, and how can we promote healthy eating in our school?’ ----------------------------- By: Niki Hill and Claudia Heil

Our topic We chose our topic to be on fruit because we wanted to learn more about fruit and find out which is the healthiest. We also wanted to promote it.We knew Genius hour should help our community, and we wanted to have a healthier community.

Research-Healthiest Fruit!!! We decided to do research on the healthiest fruits. We found the healthiest fruit was blackberries. Here are the top ten fruits that we found: Blackberries Raspberries Guava Strawberries Cranberries Kiwi Papaya Cantaloupe Sour cherries Blueberries Click on This sentence to get to the website!

The Survey - [Whole school] At first we decided to do a survey. We surveyed the whole school, even though we knew some people would have been absent. We created sheets, and went around to every class. This is what our data told us in the end: Fruit Banana Apple Nectarine Peach Mango Kiwi Strawberries Blueberries Grapes Oranges Popularity 18 50 16 6 93 9 35 8 Ranked 4th 2nd 6th 10th 1st 7th 3rd 9th AAss

At the end of the survey we created a graph At the end of the survey we created a graph. The graph easily showed the winner: By far it was mango! Mango had been voted 93 times! Oranges 3.44% Grapes 6.87% Banana 6.87% Blueberries 5.05% Apples 19.08% Strawberries 13.34% Nectarines 6.11% Kiwifruit - 3.44% Peach 2.29% Mango 35.50%

Create - continued We also created posters which we will put up, to remind people to eat fruit daily.

Working together We think we worked well together. We always pretty much agreed with each-other, and we are very proud of all of our work! Some of our strengths would have probably been surveying and creating posters: When we were surveying we mostly got all of the class voting, and some of the time we explained what we were doing and why. Also, when we were creating our posters we found we got them done quickly and quietly. We mostly used our time efficiently. “Although I was away for 2-3 sessions Claudia did so much work which I am extremely grateful and proud of!!!” (-Niki)

Even Better If... It would have been even better if we could have planned it out a bit more, because in the end we rarely looked back on my weekly planner because we usually just continued on what had to be done: We were a bit rushed!!! EBI...

Goals For future Genius Hour we hope to continue working well with whoever we are with (if we are with someone), and we hope to be successful again. Also, we thought it might be better if when we came around to every class we told them what we were doing, then surveyed them on how many fruits they eat a day, and came around at the end again to see if our posters (that could have been put up earlier) helped to make them eat more fruit. MY GOALS
