THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES:

WHAT ARE THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES? Therapeutic modalities are tools used to heal/treat someone and their injury.

TYPES OF THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES... CRYOTHERAPY THERMOTHERAPY CUPPING MASSAGE/ROLLING ULTRASOUND ELECTRIC STIMULATION LASER

WHEN TO USE INDICATED: MEANING THAT THE MODALITY WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO USE OR HELP HEAL THE INJURY CONTRAINDICATED: MEANING THAT THE MODALITY WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE TO USE OR MAY CAUSE MORE INJURY.

CRYOTHERAPY CRYOTHERAPY IS “COLD THERAPY” THESE INCLUDE: ICE ICE BATH ICE MASSAGE CRYOTHERAPY WORKS BY DECREASING THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD FLOW TO THE INJURED SITE

CRYOTHERAPY INDICATIONS: CONTRAINDICATIONS: FOR ACUTE INJURIES USE FOT THE FIRST 36-48 HOURS TO DECREASE INFLAMMATION DECREASE PAIN DECREASE METABOLIC RATE FOR ACUTE BURNS BURSITIS TENDONITIS CONTRAINDICATIONS: COLD HYPERSENSITIVITY OPEN WOUNDS

THERMOTHERAPY THERMOTHERAPY IS “HEAT THERAPY” THESE INCLUDE: HEATING PAD HOT TUB STATIONARY BIKE ULTRASOUND

THERMOTHERAPY INDICATIONS: CONTRAINDICATIONS: PAIN MUSCLE SPASM/TIGHTNESS TENDONITIS DECREASED ROM CONTRAINDICATIONS: THERMOTHERAPY TYPICALLY IS NOT USED FOR THE FIRST 36-48 HOURS AFTER AN INJURY

CUPPING CUPPING IS THE USE OF “CUPS” TO SUCTION TO ONES SKIN TO INCREASE BLOOD FLOW AND HEALING IT CAN BE USED TO GET RID OF “KNOTS” WITHIN THE MUSCLES

CUPPING INDICATIONS: CONTRAINDICATIONS: MUSCLE SPASMS/TIGHTNESS MUSCLE “KNOTS” CONTRAINDICATIONS: OVER AN OPEN WOUND OVER ANY SKIN INFECTION OR RASH *CAN CAUSE BRUISING *DO NOT WANT TO USE FOR MORE THAN ABOUT 5 MINUTES

MASSAGE MASSAGE IS WORKING ON/RUBBING ON THE BODY WITH PRESSURE THESE INCLUDE: MASSAGE ROLLING FOAM ROLLER MECHANICAL MASSAGING DEVICE

MASSAGE INDICATIONS: CONTRAINDICATIONS: MUSCLE PAIN MUSCLE TIGHTNESS IMMEDIATELY AFTER A MUSCLE INJURY WHEN SICK/ILL INTENSE PAIN

ULTRASOUND ULTRASOUND IS THE STIMULATION OF THE TISSUE BENEATH THE SKINS SURFACE USING HIGH FREQUENCY SOUND WAVES IT CAN BE USED TO HEAT UP TISSUE, INCREASE BLOOD FLOW, DECREASE PAIN AND SWELLING AND SOFTENING SCAR TISSUE

ULTRASOUND INDICATIONS: CONTRAINDICATIONS: BREAK UP/SOFTEN SCAR TISSUE TENDONITIS MUSCLE SPASM/TIGHTNESS PAIN CONTRAINDICATIONS: OVER INFECTION OR SKIN IRRITATION OVER CERTAIN BODY AREAS

ELECTRICAL STIMULATION E-STIM IS THE USE OF ELECTRODES AND ELECTRICAL CURRENT TO DECREASE PAIN

ELECTRICAL STIMULATION INDICATIONS: PAIN SORENESS RE-EDUCATION OF MUSCLES CONTRAINDICATIONS: OVER CERTAIN BODY AREAS
