Our Lady of Peace Catholic Primary School 5th Week of Easter I want you to love each other as I have loved each one of you.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John Response: Glory to you, O Lord

Gospel John 13:31-35 When Judas had left them, Jesus turned to his apostles and said, ‘Now God’s glory is revealed through the Son. It will soon be time for me to leave you, my friends, and you cannot come where I am going. So I give you a new commandment: I want you to love each other as I have loved each of you. If you live by this rule, other people will see your goodness and love, and they will know that you are my disciples.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection People are like stained glass- their love is revealed when it shines from within

Reflection- Option 1 Jesus gave us a new commandment to love one another to complete the commandments we already had. These are the foundation blocks on which we build our lives as his disciples today. Christ calls us to put our love into living action by loving others as we are loved by God. When Judas left Jesus and his disciples where was he going? How would God’s glory be revealed through Jesus his Son? Above all else, what did Jesus want his disciples to do when he had left them? What does it mean to love as Jesus has loved? Can you think of any times when Jesus put his love into action? How can we put our love into action in the world today?

Option 2 Reflection Jesus said he was going to leave his apostles-where was he going? Jesus knew that the time had come for him to suffer and die, before rising from the dead and returning to his Father in Heaven. What did Jesus tell his disciples to do when he had gone? He gave them a new commandment- to love one another as he had loved them. Jesus loved and cared for all people and wanted to put right whatever was wrong in their lives. Can you remember some of the times he showed how much he cared? When he fed the five thousand hungry people When he cured the lepers When he brought a little girl back to life When he changed the water into wine at a wedding When he cured the crippled and made the blind see The greatest sign of his love was when he was willing to suffer and die for us so that we could share everlasting life with him at the end of time. How do other people know that we are followers of Jesus? When we love and care for others

Prayer- Option 1 As brothers and sisters in one loving family, together let us pray to our heavenly Father: We pray for countries and nations facing famine, flood, drought or any kind of disaster Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayers We pray for those who are poor and in need of our help Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer We pray for the homeless and refugees who have lost everything they owned Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer We pray for peace in our world and understanding and forgiveness between nations and religions Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Knowing that our heavenly Father is listening, in silence of our hearts let us share our own unspoken prayer with him Silence Loving Father may we be faithful to the Christian name and worthy to be called children of God. We make our prayer through Christ your Son. Amen

Option 2-Prayer The candles flame is warm and bright it changes darkness into light. We feel it’s warmth and see it glow and when we look at it we know the light of Christ is burning bright for we are children of the light. Lord Jesus, you showed us how we should love and care for one another. May our love be a sign to bring others to know and love you too. Amen
