Digital Campus: Foundation Projects Student Portal VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) Business Intelligence & Data Management Applications Anywhere Digital Platforms

Student Portal (Gareth Kirk) As a direct response to student feedback, the Student Portal Project was developed to improve the way students access information and services On Wednesday 20th January 2016, the myWLV pilot launched on desktop and mobile devices This large-scale pilot, includes taught undergraduate and postgraduate on-campus students myWLV will offer students personalised information and access to services, in one place! Including: Assessment Deadlines Email VLE Topic Subscriptions Links to Key Resources (e.g. Room Booking, Library Resources, PC Availability) And many more … Further enhancements to the pilot are scheduled for March and May 2016 The pilot will be reviewed in Summer 2016 Complete rollout scheduled for June 2017, subject to a successful pilot

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) (Fahri Zihni) Following extensive staff and student engagement activities, a decision has been taken to purchase a new VLE The VLE Project will deliver improvements to the Student Experience and provide new Learning and Teaching capabilities through: New toolsets and approaches Opportunity to adopt new learning and teaching technologies Opportunities for productive collaboration with other HEIs The University’s procurement processes will be followed to select and implement a new VLE The University’s user community have a key part to play in a VLE procurement process, by trialling shortlisted VLEs and feeding into product evaluation and selection Five VLE system providers have passed the Tender qualification process, enabling them to progress to further evaluation activities No VLE product has been selected

Data Management & Business Intelligence (John Milner) A new way of accessing data through a single authoritative, central data source for business intelligence reporting Easily accessible on any device The ability to integrate data from several sources (internal and external) to meet business needs not met by single system reporting New reporting tools that will enable easier access to data with an interactive, visually engaging and more user-friendly experience – using the same data and allowing for new data Firm foundation for reliable business scenario planning based on consistent data – data stewardship processes under review! Provision of University-wide views of topics requiring operational attention and/or contributing to evidence-based strategic decision making Initial focus to improve access to data on recruitment, retention and progression

Digital Platforms (Jerry Niman) To replace the core of the University infrastructure that enables servers and storage to be available for use and backed up This means replacing the platform hardware, virtualisation software and the system that backs it all up It will allow the use of cloud services to provide server and storage capacity Benefits: Availability – Resilience – Management - Backup

Apps Anywhere (Nici Cooper) Students told us through the Students’ Union and National Student Survey that they found it difficult to access software outside of teaching time Apps Anywhere will offer device and location independent delivery of specialist teaching software Apps Anywhere launched on University owned Windows computers ready for start of teaching 2015/16 Our students now have access to over 350 applications through the Apps Hub (University owned Windows computers) The next significant pieces of work are: Transitioning the project into routine everyday business Reviewing and defining software lifecycles (from request to retirement) Access to accessibility software through Apps Anywhere The development of a solution to deliver Apple applications
