EBOLA RESPONSE The Logistics Cluster was formally activated in Liberia on 12 September 2014, although not active in all the three affected countries, has been operating in support of UNMEER and the humanitarian community. The Air Coordination Cell (ACC), hosted by UNICEF’s Supply Division in Copenhagen, and the Cologne Staging Area, supported by UPS and the Cologne Bonn Airport addressed the challenges due to the suspension and critical reduction of international commercial air services to Ebola-affected countries. The Logistics Cluster promoted air consolidation of emergency supplies, sharing an average of 111 daily information update and processing 254 shipment requests.

EBOLA RESPONSE The Cologne Staging Area was a commercial operation; LET companies provided space/staff to consolidate cargo that was shipped via chartered aircraft    The German Airforce delivered cargo to all three countries in coordination with WFP & UNMEER. The Unit was Lufttransportgeschwader 61, flying a Type: C-160D Transall German Military Aircraft loading relief items in Accra

EBOLA RESPONSE The British military chose the name ‘Operation Herring’ for their assistance to the Logistics Cluster in delivering the food on behalf of WFP. This operation combined the efforts of the Logistics Cluster, WFP and the JIATF to transport and distribute of 218 mt of food for 3,200 households at 17 delivery points across four islands. The food was organized into 400 Single Use Lift Bags (SULBs) that are certified for use as slung loads under helicopters. The SULBs had been donated by the Royal Navy (RN) for the purpose. The Executive Officer of the RFA Argus intends to frame the WFP Waybills used for Operation Herring.
